September 2001

Sept. 11, 2001

September was a month to move into the house and settle into the routines of school, unpacking and settling in, and beginning to get out into the city and countryside.

Kid-landia is almost ready to move into.

The very small village of Gößl (Goessl) in the Salzkammergut mountain area. We went there to pick Derek up from his school outing, and stayed an extra day to hike and just relax (escape from our house, truthfully). It was great, as it always is - we love this place.

Two girls on the anchor by the Grundlsee, at the Gasthaus Röstige Ankor (naturally).

Sept 22. We get out for our first Fall exploration. This is the area just outside Vienna, in the Vienna woods. Full of farmers selling produce - in this case a stand by the road with a jar full of money - the honor system.

Denizens of the WienerWald in the fall.

Oma Bonka's Gasthaus. This family has another gasthaus just down the road from us in Vienna, and we decided to explore their country restaurant. Good food!

A Kurbis (pumpkin) strudel. Just very fresh pumpkin with a bit of topfen (quark), and strudel. It was VERY good! This would be a hit in Sonoma county.

Sturm-clubbing at the Nierscher Heurigen (winery). This fellow owned our house before the people who sold it to us. He's now a wine grower/maker, and makes great Sturm!

Fall.... what a great time. Sunflower in Sturm bottle, with a glass of Sturm to keep it company.

Sturm'ing at home.
